Bright Eyes, Refreshed Look: Understanding Eyelid Surgery with Dr. Andrew P. Giacobbe

As we age, one of the first areas to show signs of fatigue and aging is the delicate skin around the eyes. Drooping upper lids, puffy bags under the eyes, or a heavy, tired appearance can make you look older than you feel. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a highly effective and popular procedure that restores a youthful, refreshed look to the eyes—often with minimal downtime and surprisingly little discomfort.

At our practice, we offer upper and lower blepharoplasty depending on your specific concerns.

  • Upper eyelid surgery addresses excess skin that can droop over the lash line or create a hooded appearance.
  • Lower eyelid surgery reduces puffiness and under-eye bags by removing or repositioning bulging fat pads and tightening the lower eyelid structure.

What to Expect

Eyelid surgery is typically performed under anesthesia, and most procedures take about an hour. During surgery, we remove excess skin, tighten the underlying muscle, and sculpt or reposition fat to create a smoother, more youthful contour.

Patients are often surprised to learn that recovery is quite comfortable, especially considering how sensitive the eyelid area is to touch. Postoperative pain is minimal to none, and most patients report only mild discomfort, if any.

Recovery and Aftercare

  • Stitches are removed after about a week, and bruising—if present—is typically mild and resolves quickly.
  • To reduce swelling and promote healing, we recommend resting with your head elevated above heart level in a “lounge chair” position for the first few days.
  • Cool compresses and following a gentle aftercare routine can speed healing and enhance your results.

Who is a Candidate?

Ideal candidates are healthy individuals without significant eye conditions, such as uncontrolled glaucoma or a history of retinal detachment. During your consultation, we will carefully evaluate your medical history and eye health to ensure eyelid surgery is a safe and effective choice for you.

Natural, Noticeable Results

The results of blepharoplasty can be both subtle and transformative—patients often look brighter, more rested, and years younger, all without looking “done.” It’s one of the most rewarding facial procedures we perform, with a high satisfaction rate and longlasting results.

If you’re ready to restore a more youthful, energetic appearance, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Andrew P. Giacobbe. Let us help you open your eyes to the possibilities.
