The Ozempic Makeover: Surgical and Non-Surgical Options After Weight Loss

WNY Plastic Surgery Ozempic makeover blog post

If you’ve achieved weight loss through lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, or medications like Ozempic, congratulations – you’re on a life-changing journey. But with dramatic weight loss often comes loose skin, volume loss, and contour changes. Whether you’re experiencing what’s been coined “Ozempic Face” or are looking to tighten and tone your body, we offer customized solutions to help you look as good as you feel.

At WNY Plastic Surgery, we provide a full range of surgical and non-surgical treatments to refine your appearance and enhance your post-weight-loss confidence.

Over the past few years there has been an extreme rise in the popularity of GLP-1 medications, the most popular being Ozempic as a treatment for diabetes. These medications have a secondary effect of causing significant weight loss, and in fact, several are now FDA approved for this indication. As a result, plastic surgeons are seeing more and more patients who have lost significant weight and are now seeking cosmetic improvement of body areas that unfortunately have changed as a result. Perhaps you have heard of the term “Mommy Makeover”. Now a term that we are hearing is “Ozempic Makeover”.

These makeovers usually involve some combination of a breast procedure such as a breast augmentation, breast lift or both and a body procedure such as a tummy tuck, liposuction or both. While some of these procedures can be combined as a single operation, other procedures may need to be staged as two or more procedures depending on the individual patient’s concerns, medical history, surgical facility and the surgeon. Patients should prioritize which areas they want to focus on first, delaying procedures that are a lesser priority after proper healing of the first surgery. Starting with areas that bother patients the most will result in an immediate and noticeable improvement that can boost a patient’s confidence and self-esteem.

Because we are unable to control which areas of the body will lose weight, some individuals may notice changes in the appearance of their face, thus the term “Ozempic Face”. These patients may benefit from non-surgical procedures such as facial fillers, or even surgical procedures such as a mini-facelift, facelift or neck lift.

Precautions are necessary prior to surgery for patients who use GLP-1 medications. Patients should be at or near their goal weight prior to surgery because excessive weight loss following surgery can result in the skin loosening again. In addition, since GLP-1 medications delay emptying of the stomach, these medications must be stopped two weeks prior to elective surgery. Furthermore, some patients who use these medications and in particular gastric bypass patients, are often deficient in certain vitamins, minerals and protein intake and should be counseled on a proper diet and supplement use prior to surgery.

What Is the “Ozempic Makeover”?

The Ozempic Makeover is a personalized treatment plan designed to address common aesthetic concerns after rapid or significant weight loss.

This can include:

  • Loose, sagging skin on the face and body
  • Hollowed cheeks or temples (“Ozempic Face”)
  • Deflated breasts
  • Stubborn fat that resists further loss

Our approach combines expert evaluation with advanced techniques to help you achieve a natural, rejuvenated look.

Surgical Body Contouring After Weight Loss

For those with moderate to severe skin laxity, surgery often provides the most effective and lasting results.

Popular procedures include:

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) – Removes excess skin and tightens abdominal muscles for a firmer, flatter midsection.
  • Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) – Reduces sagging skin from the upper arms for a more toned appearance.
  • Breast Lift or Augmentation – Restores breast shape and position, with or without implants, to match your new figure.
  • Liposuction – targets specific areas of unwanted fat that don’t respond to further weight loss efforts.

Non-Surgical Solutions for “Ozempic Face”

Rapid weight loss can lead to a hollowed or aged appearance in the face, especially around the cheeks, jawline, and under the eyes. Our non-surgical treatments restore volume and support skin health.

  • Dermal Fillers – Restore youthful contours with hyaluronic acid-based fillers for cheeks, temples, lips, and more.
  • Botox Treatment – Relax dynamic wrinkles and fine lines for a smoother, refreshed look.

Facial Surgery Options

When non-surgical treatments aren’t enough, surgical facial rejuvenation can deliver dramatic yet natural-looking results.

  • Facelift or Mini Facelift – Tightens sagging skin and underlying tissue for long-term facial rejuvenation.
  • Neck Lift – Eliminates neck banding and improves the jawline contour.
