As the days grow longer and warmer with spring just around the corner, many of us begin to look forward to milder weather, beach trips, and outdoor activities. For some, it’s also the time when thoughts turn to enhancing their appearance and boosting their confidence—especially when it comes to breast augmentation.
At our practice, we see an uptick in consultations for this popular procedure as patients begin to prepare for the warmer months ahead. Whether it’s to achieve a fuller, more balanced silhouette or to restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, breast augmentation is a highly personalized procedure. Here, I’ll walk you through some of the most common questions and points of discussion during a typical consultation.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation involves surgically placing an implant to enlarge the size of the breasts. The implants used can be saline or silicone gel, with both types offering distinct benefits. In my practice, however, I most commonly use the cohesive silicone gel implant, often referred to as the “Gummy Bear” implant. These implants are filled with a denser form of silicone gel, which means that even if the outer shell were to break, the gel stays intact without leaking, providing extra peace of mind. The “Gummy Bear” quality also makes them feel more natural compared to saline implants, with less visible rippling and a longer-lasting result.
Choosing the Right Implant for You
Breast implants come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and profiles. There are three main profiles: low, moderate, and full. The decision about which implant to choose, as well as the best placement—above or below the pectoral muscle—depends on a number of factors, including your body type, anatomy, and personal goals for the procedure. We’ll work together to determine the most appropriate approach to achieve your desired outcome while ensuring safety and a natural look.
Preparing for Surgery
To ensure the best possible outcome and minimize risks, patients should avoid certain medications that could increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, in the weeks leading up to surgery. It’s also important to refrain from smoking prior to surgery, as smoking can interfere with wound healing and increase the risk of complications.
Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?
If you’ve been considering breast augmentation, I encourage you to schedule a consultation. Together, we’ll discuss your goals, assess your anatomy, and determine the best approach to achieve the results you desire. Whether you’re looking to enhance your natural shape, restore volume, or simply feel more confident in your body, breast augmentation may be the right option for you.
As spring approaches, now is the perfect time to start planning ahead. I look forward to helping you achieve the look you’ve always wanted.
